Syngonium podophyllum 'Aurea' is a vibrant variegated variety of the arrowhead plant, known for its striking yellow and green marbled foliage. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, this fast-growing plant brings a splash of color to any indoor space. Its versatile growth habit allows it to be grown as a compact bush or trained to climb as a vine.

Special Characteristics:

The standout feature of Syngonium podophyllum 'Aurea' is its arrow-shaped leaves with a beautiful blend of golden yellow and vibrant green variegation. Each leaf is uniquely patterned, making every plant a one-of-a-kind specimen. As the plant matures, its leaves may become more lobed, giving it a dynamic and evolving appearance.

Care Instructions

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vivid variegation. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while low light may cause the variegation to fade and growth to slow.

  • Water: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering in the winter months when growth slows.

  • Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity levels, ideally above 60%. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or regular misting to maintain moisture levels, especially in drier indoor environments.

  • Temperature: Best grown in temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Protect from cold drafts and avoid exposure to temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A combination of potting soil, perlite, and coco coir or peat moss ensures proper aeration and drainage.

  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter.

  • Pruning & Training: Prune to maintain the desired shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy. It can be left to trail naturally or trained to climb a support structure.

  • Propagation: Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut below a node, ensuring there is at least one leaf attached, and place the cutting in water or moist soil until roots develop.

  • Pests & Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while low humidity may cause browning leaf edges.

Difficulty Rating: Easy. Syngonium podophyllum 'Aurea' is a low-maintenance plant that’s perfect for beginners, offering stunning golden variegation with minimal care.
