Philodendron 'Strawberry Shake' is a rare and highly sought-after variegated Philodendron known for its stunning blend of cream, pink, yellow, and deep red tones. As it matures, its foliage becomes even more vibrant, making it a favorite among collectors. This climbing aroid thrives with proper support and care, rewarding plant lovers with breathtaking variegation.

Special Characteristics:

The most striking feature of Philodendron 'Strawberry Shake' is its variegated leaves, displaying a mix of colors that shift as the plant grows. New leaves emerge with pink or red tones, which later develop into creamy streaks over a rich green backdrop. This variety is a natural climber and will flourish when trained on a moss pole or trellis.

Care Instructions

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to enhance variegation. Too much direct sunlight can cause leaf scorch, while low light may lead to reduced variegation and slower growth.

  • Water: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering, as this plant is prone to root rot.

  • Humidity: Thrives in high humidity levels (ideally above 60%). If your indoor environment is dry, consider using a humidifier, pebble tray, or misting to maintain adequate moisture.

  • Temperature: Best suited for temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

  • Soil: Requires a well-draining, airy potting mix. A blend of potting soil, perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir provides the best conditions for healthy root development.

  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

  • Pruning & Training: Prune to remove any yellowing or damaged leaves and encourage fuller growth. Providing a moss pole or trellis will help support its climbing habit and promote larger, more mature leaves.

  • Propagation: Can be propagated through stem cuttings. Cut below a node, ensuring there is at least one variegated leaf, and place the cutting in water or moist soil until roots develop.

  • Pests & Problems: Watch for common pests like spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while low humidity may cause browning leaf edges.

Difficulty Rating: Moderate. Philodendron 'Strawberry Shake' requires consistent care to maintain its stunning variegation, making it best suited for plant enthusiasts with some experience.

Note: Bottom cut with 3-4 actived growth points (pictured).
