Hoya rosita is a stunning and rare hybrid Hoya, admired for its slender, elongated leaves and vibrant clusters of star-shaped flowers. This variety is a cross between Hoya wayetii and Hoya tsangii, inheriting the best traits from both parent plants. Native to Southeast Asia, this trailing beauty thrives in bright conditions and is an excellent choice for hanging baskets or mounted displays.

Special Characteristics:

The standout feature of Hoya rosita is its narrow, deep green leaves with reddish edges that become more pronounced under high light. When mature, it produces clusters of bright pink to deep red waxy flowers with a sweet fragrance, making it a stunning addition to any Hoya collection.

Care Instructions

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to encourage blooming. Some direct morning sun enhances leaf coloration, but too much direct sunlight can scorch the foliage.

  • Water: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, as Hoyas prefer not to sit in constantly moist soil.

  • Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity levels, ideally above 50%. Increasing humidity promotes better growth and flowering.

  • Temperature: Best grown in temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Avoid exposure to temperatures below 55°F (13°C) and protect from cold drafts.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining, airy potting mix. A blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark ensures proper aeration and drainage.

  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). A fertilizer high in phosphorus can encourage blooming.

  • Pruning & Training: Prune to shape and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves. Avoid cutting off flower peduncles, as Hoyas bloom from the same stalks repeatedly.

  • Propagation: Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut below a node, ensuring there is at least one healthy leaf, and root in water or moist soil.

  • Pests & Problems: Generally pest-resistant but may occasionally attract mealybugs, aphids, or spider mites. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while low humidity may cause leaf curling.

Difficulty Rating: Easy to Moderate. Hoya rosita is a low-maintenance, rewarding plant that thrives with proper care, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced Hoya collectors.
