Hoya fungii

Hoya fungii is a stunning, fast-growing vining plant known for its large, velvety green leaves and clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers. Native to China, this species is a favorite among Hoya collectors for its lush foliage and easy-care nature. Given the right conditions, Hoya fungii will reward growers with beautiful umbels of white to pale pink blooms with deep red centers.

Care Instructions

• Water: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, as Hoyas prefer to be on the drier side. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

• Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity levels, ideally above 50%. While it can adapt to average household humidity, increased humidity promotes better growth and flowering.

• Temperature: Best grown in temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

• Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A combination of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark ensures proper aeration and drainage.

• Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a fertilizer high in phosphorus to encourage blooming. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

• Pruning & Training: Prune to maintain the desired shape and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves. Avoid cutting off old peduncles, as Hoyas rebloom from the same flower stalks.

• Propagation: Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut below a node, ensuring there is at least one healthy leaf attached, and place the cutting in water or moist soil until roots develop.

• Pests & Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract mealybugs, aphids, or spider mites. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while low humidity may cause leaf curling or browning tips.
